Grito de Dolor es (A Cry of pain it is) *
Presented at Plaza de las Américas in downtown Zapopan, during the celebration of Mexican Independence. The performance aims to denounce femicide, impunity and insecurity in Mexico.  It takes mourning as a symbol to represent the collective pain (dolor in Spanish). The female body is used as a metaphor for Mexico, a nation that has been trampled on and abused, just like thousands of women suffer every year.
But in spite of the gloomy context, Grito de Dolor es is a performance conceived to give hope. Through audience participation and reflection, it attempts to demolish political and social borders. It is a call for people to band together as a community and to scream together (grito in Spanish) for justice.

*  For the title  I used the word dolor not only because of its meaning, but also because ironically the fight for Mexican independence began in the small town of Dolores in the state of Guanajuato, with a call to arms by the local priest. This historical event is known as the Grito de Dolores (Cry of Dolores).
